I’ve had sessions with multiple psychologists in my adult life and found it beneficial. First and foremost, I was able to talk openly to somebody about everything in my life which was refreshing.

I was able to gain some perspective on moments in my life where I’ve struggled with feelings of anxiety and understand how to best cope with those moments and also understand when I’m in one of those difficult times. I have also found psychologists can offer guidance on how the everyday decisions we make can impact on our mental well-being and to learn how to make better decisions with that knowledge.

I have found it important to choose a psychologist who makes you feel most comfortable. I’ve had only good experiences with psychologists but found one to be particularly positive because they were a great listener and rarely interjected to try to explain things to me or make sense of them. Therefore, I benefit most from a psychologist who is a fantastic listener, asks lots of questions and only offers explanations when it is their turn to speak.

When it's personal, you need the right person.

A key component to a positive outcome is finding the right match. Someone who talks your language, genuinely gets it and understands how you’re feeling.
